According to The Olympian newspaper, the Department of Social and Health Services has yanked a fairly new adult home care facility's license. The facility, opened in 2003, cares for five elderly clients. The facility was cited with,

Failing to ensure one resident received prompt medical care with a change in condition and that another resident received glucose monitoring as ordered.

Failing to ensure that residents received adequate medication service.

Failing to ensure caregivers giving unsupervised care were qualified and to obtain background checks for caregivers.

Failing to provide oversight of the home and maintain a safe, hazard-free home in good repair and condition.

If you have elderly parents or relatives living in a nursing home or other care facility, you should visit them as frequently as possible. When you visit, make sure to ask a lot of questions. Look around and see if everything is clean, orderly and safe.

If your elderly relative becomes sick or injured, make sure that you know exactly why and how. Beware of any illness or injury that could have easily been prevented.

If you have a question about something that happened to an elderly person at a care facility, you should contact a personal injury attorney immediately. Most personal injury attorneys work on a contingency fee basis and will do an initial investigation of your claim for free. Don't let anyone get away with taking advantage of the elderly.
