A woman backing out of her driveway was broadsided on the driver's side of her car by another vehicle heading south on 131st Avenue SE in east Snohomish. The woman suffered severe injuries and was transported to Harborview Medical Center.

The southbound car was being driven by a 17-year-old girl. There were two passengers inside the car. All three persons may have suffered minor injuries, according the police

When the crash was reported, first responders believed the collision may have caused a fire inside the car. It's unknown whether there were actually flames, or whether witnesses just saw air bags deploying ,[sheriff's office Lt. Jeff] Brand said.

The sheriff's office is investigating the accident. Firefighters from Snohomish, Lake Stevens and Monroe assisted.

While the rules of the road favor the driver who was already on the roadway, there may be issues of comparative fault that allow the estate of the driver entering the roadway to bring claims of its own.

Regardless of which person or persons were at fault for the accident, the injured passengers have both first and third party claims with their own insurance carriers and the carriers of the at-fault drivers.
