Some accidents are not caused by negligent driving. Once in a while, an accident is caused by a manufacturer defect. This means that something went wrong with the vehicle that was beyond the driver's control.

Recently, the International Herald Tribune reported that Japanese police were looking into Toyota's failure to recall the Toyota 4- Runner after a serious accident. According to the International Herald Tribune, the Toyota vehicle developed a problem with the steering mechanism, causing the vehicle to veer off unexpectedly.

Unfortunately, one such vehicle entered oncoming traffic and seriously injured a family traveling in the opposite direction.

As reported by the International Herald Tribune,

The police asked local prosecutors to investigate three current and former executives in Toyota's head office for possible professional negligence in their decision not to issue the recall earlier, or to take other safety measures, said Akitoshi Takahashi, an officer in the police department's traffic division. He refused to identify the three but said that prosecutors were reviewing the request before deciding whether to file charges.

If you have been involved in an accident and suspect that a manufacturer defect may have been involved you should contact a personal injury attorney immediately. In addition, you should make sure that your vehicle is not destroyed so that it is available for inspection. Catching a manufacturer defect early can save lives. Don't let a manufacturer's defect injure you or those you love.
