John Derrek Clark is in the Pierce County Jail after driving his girlfriend's car into a crowd of people at a Lakewood, Washington apartment complex, injuring several.

Apparently this bizarre incident happened after Mr. Clark got into an argument with his girlfriend and was told to slow down while speeding through the apartment complex's parking lot. A fistfight ensued, Mr. Clark got back into the car and drove through a crowd that gathered.

Four were taken to hospitals. A one-year old sustained a head injury and a pregnant woman may have gone into pre-term labor.

This strange situation raises a number of legal issues, including whether there is available insurance coverage for compensation to the injured persons. Mr. Clark is likely looking at paying a lot of money for the rest of his life (once he gets out of jail) because any judgment against him will likely be nondischargeable in bankruptcy.
